Annette Funicello, then 13 years old, was spotted in the hands of Walt Disney in an amateur production of Swan Lake performed in Fullerton California. Annette Sings Anka is the album that marked the beginning of her progress. It was perhaps the first rock-songwriter LP. Funicello appeared alongside Frankie Avalon in Beach Party. This was the first in a series of films about beach parties that became immensely popular. The scripts for each of the films were read and approved personally by Walt Disney so as to safeguard Annette's image. The film cars of Funicello were used to upset other performers.
